Prophet Jesus(a.s) and Virgin Mary(r.a) according to Holy Quran and Islamic faith

In today’s Islamophobia and disinformation driven world, many westerners are surprised to find out about substantial information about Prophet Jesus(a.s) and his mother Virgin Mary(r.a) contained in Holy Quran and therefore in the teachings of Islamic faith.

The dominant media expects a gain from quarrels between Christians and Muslims, thus would do their best to cover up the facts about such informational resources.

Such ignorance can not be excused, a non-Muslim doesn’t have the right be to surprised to learn about for the first time in their lives, there is a whole sura in Holy Quran dedicated to Virgin Mary(r.a), the sura’s name is Sura Maryam and it is 19th sura in Holy Quran. We deliberately emphasize the virginity of the mother of Prophet Jesus(a.s) because Holy Quran mentions Virgin Mary(r.a) in such respectful way:

Behold! the angels said: “O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;

 “He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous.”

 She said: “O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?” He said: “Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, ‘Be,’ and it is! (Sura Aal-E-Imran 3/45-46-47)

We are explained in a different sura about the miraculous birth of Prophet Jesus(a.s) who was born “fatherless”:

The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: “Be”. And he was. (Sura Aal-E-Imran 3/59)

Holy Quran also mentions Bible, as the book given Prophet Jesus(a.s) in an another sura:

And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah. (Sura Al-Maeda 5/46)

Not just in Holy Quran, but also in the teaching of Prophet Jesus(a.s) and the words he spoke during his life time has been an effectual and inspirational source for Islamic mysticism, tasawwuf.

Many Muslim mystics spoke favorably of Prophet Jesus(a.s) because of the emphasize given to him according Islamic aqeedah.

Muslims today should try to explain to every non-Muslim about such truths that are found easily in Holy Quran with patience. However, this can be an arduous and difficult task since current dominant medias in today’s world are actively supporting a tension between Muslims and Christians.

This is not just a matter of inter-cultural relationships. There are very definite, thought-provoking ayats in Holy Quran which mention highly favorable of Prophet Jesus(a.s) and Virgin Mary(r.a), and the whole world should just listen to such ayats if they want to learn about this “great” Prophet and his “holy” mother.
